This degree programme aims at promoting social and economic development
through developing a cadre of professionals to address individual problems
and empowerment of people in order to promote sustainable development.
Students are exposed to various principles, social systems, theories, research
skills and practices necessary for the development and refinement of social
interventions.
The Lusaka Goldsmiths University Bachelor of Social Work degree intends to
equip graduates with the capability to identify common human problems
based on research and analysis of the theoretical, social, political, economic,
cultural and environmental concerns and develop strategies for their
amelioration. The program further intends to equip graduates with skills that are
vital in community organization in order to promote sustainable community
development initiatives and promotion of sustainable livelihoods. Equip
graduates with skills that they would apply to address the development
agenda and develop evidence-based practice in the promotion of social and
economic development.
At the end of the program, learners shall:
– Identify and know common human problems based on research and analysis.
– Know and apply skills for community organization for promotion of sustainable livelihoods.
– Know and apply theoretical and practical principles necessary for social intervention
– Know and apply evidence based research skills in promoting social and economic development.
Subject to the other requirements for admissions to the degree programs at
Lusaka Goldsmiths University, students wishing to pursue the Bachelor of
Economics degree should have 5 “O” levels at credit or better or the
Cambridge “O” levels school certificate with (5) credits including English and
Mathematics.
