The Lusaka Goldsmiths University Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree programme is a sister program to the Bachelor of Economics program. The programme offers a combination of courses in Economics and Finance. The program provides students with analytical tools from the fields of Economics, Treasury Management, Corporate Finance, Portfolio and Asset Management required to work as a Financial Analyst and/or Economist. The programme introduces students to basic accounting in financial accounting 1, mathematics in fundamentals of mathematics, communication and academic writing skills and delves into economics with introduction to micro economics. The programme further focuses on financial neconomics, management theory and practice, international macro economics and, then takes a specific point of mathematics in economics with mathematics for economics I. The programme also introduces students to financial risk management, econometrics, corporate finance, labour economics and international trade among others.
The Lusaka Goldsmiths University Bachelor of Economics and Finance bdegree programme looks to building a versatile economist and/or financial expert that is capable of navigating the economic and business environment and bfinding solutions to the challenges that businesses especially SMEs face with financing in Zambia. bThe programme is therefore focused on bequipping graduates with skills to understanding how the global economy and financial sectors operate and how they affect bdomestic economies and financial systems. The programme has a home perspective to understanding globalisation, the economic and financial challenges it may or has presented to the emerging economies and then present solutions to the same. Equipping students with the skills bhighlighted above will be realised through providing modules/courses that
are tailored to resolving issues of the current economic and financial situation
such as economic planning and development, Agriculture economics and,
development economics.
The Lusaka Goldsmiths University Bachelor of Economics degree programme
aims to equip graduates with fundamental knowledge of economics which
they can apply to help the country better attain social economic freedom and
the effective management the country’s economy. By pursuing the Bachelor
of Economics degree program at Lusaka Goldsmiths University graduates will
be able to advice policy makers on economic policies the country should be
taking which, would lead to the country’s economic growth and sustainability.
The objectives of the program is to train graduates on the historical aspects of economics, to equip graduates with concepts of micro and macroeconomics, to makes a nexus between economics and its impact on societies, to equip graduates with knowledge of statistics and its relevance to economics. The programme further intends to explain demography and its connection to the economics of countries, to make a connection between economics and mathematics and the role of mathematics in the economy. The program further intends to equip graduates with knowledge of corporate finance, international finance, managerial economics, entrepreneurship, money and banking and how they are all connected to economics among other.
At the end of the program, learners shall:

Subject to the other requirements for admissions to the degree programs at
Lusaka Goldsmiths University, students wishing to pursue the Bachelor of
Economics degree should have 5 “O” levels at credit or better or the
Cambridge “O” levels school certificate with (5) credits including English and
Mathematics.
