INTRODUCTION

This module introduces students to a unique area of law. (The Cyber Crime and Security Law). The module examines what Cyber Crime is and how it is committed. It looks at international standards on cyber laws such as the (UNCITRAL) law and the (SADC) Model Law on Cyber Security. The module further examines the nexus between ICT and Cybercrime. It critically examines the Criminal Justice System in dealing with cybercrime and issues on admissibility of evidence in cyber related criminal offences etc.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this module are: 

• To examine what cybercrime is and how it is different from other forms of crimes.
• To highlight international standards on dealing with cyber security.
• To examine the Criminal Justice System’s approach to Cybercrime.
• To highlight the evidentiary approach to cyber related crimes
• To explore the trends and future of cybercrime and security.

LEARNING OUTCOME

At the end of this module you should be able to:

• Know and explain what Cybercrime is.
• Distinguish cybercrime from other forms of crimes
• Understand and apply evidence, consideration in Cybercrime.
• Know explain the International Instruments on Cybercrime & their domestication.
• Explain the Criminal Justice System’s response to cybercrime.
