INTRODUCTION  

The module introduces the learners to the law of torts. It begins by define what torts are and explains the distinction between torts and the law of torts. The module examines the different types of torts there are, how they are different and how liability in each of them arise. Finally the modules examines the defences and remedies available in the law of torts.

OBJECTIVES  

The objectives of this module are:

  • To explain what tort is and how it is different from the law of torts
  • To identify and explain the elements of the different types of torts there
  • To examine how liability arise in the different types of torts there
  • Identify and explain operations of the defences and remedies available in tort.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module you should be able to:

  • Define what law of tort is
  • Explain the distinction between law of torts and other laws
  • Know and explain what the elements of different torts are
  • Explain how liability arise in the different tors
  • Know and explain the defences and remedies available in tort.
