Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)


The BSW Degree aims to equip learners with knowledge and skills in social work to address societal challenges both in and outside Zambia. Society faces a range of issues, from personal to communal, requiring professionals well-versed in social work principles and practices to promote well-being and social justice. This degree introduces and trains learners in essential social work methodologies to address issues that could lead to social dysfunction if left unaddressed.

The objectives of the Lusaka Goldsmiths University BSW Degree are to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle social, psychological, and community-based challenges faced by individuals and communities worldwide. The program covers areas such as social welfare, community development, counseling, and social justice, ensuring graduates are equipped to handle diverse social issues and contribute to positive societal change.

At the end of the program, learners shall:
- Have comprehensive knowledge of social work practices and their application in society.
- Be able to apply social work theories and methods to address various social challenges.
- Provide informed advice on social issues arising in different community contexts.
- Understand concepts of social welfare, community development, and social justice.
- Be capable of contributing to policy development and interventions for social change.

Assessment for the BSW program includes a combination of coursework, practical assignments, fieldwork evaluations, and examinations to ensure learners demonstrate both theoretical understanding and practical application of social work principles.
